John and Mei’s posterous

From New Zealand but happy living in China

Saturday morning in Anshan

Its nice and warm this morning, nearly perspiring, temp is around 10 or 11c and yesterday was so cold with the wind. Out early this morning to buy bathroom fittings and try another kitchen place to compare prices. Afternoon, classes. Mei is back at the tile suppliers discussing things because they sent some wrong tiles, so Mei will be getting stuck in to them, I feel sorry for them.

Apartment fit out progress

Progress is being made in the new apartment. I had our balcony filled in so we had to replace the roofing. It looked very dangerous to me, I hate heights and this was on a narrow roof on the 11th floor. It gave me the willies just thinking about it, but I did manage to brave up and take picture or two.

Doing the vacuuming

Today is known as small new year, which is a week before Big New Year or Spring Festival. Yesterday and today was spent doing a spring clean, perhaps that is where the words originated, it is a tradition thousands of years old. so I was cleaning windows and vacuuming and dusting etc. We also visited the graves of Mei’s father and mother, another tradition which included burning lots of paper money.

It is relatively warm today, around 4 or 5c which is a lot warmer then –23c so it is quite pleasant.

We have a ‘wind down week’ next week as every one is in holiday mood, we go to Shenyang on Tuesday for a concert with all the other schools, so that's a bit of fun, then Mei’s son arrives from Beijing on Thursday.

The fireworks have started already and will happen for the next couple of weeks or more, day and night.

Went walking on the lake before and it is always a strange sensation wandering around on the ice and looking at the water underneath. The ice seemed to be about a foot thick so it is pretty safe, just feels eerie.

Trying to set up a web site with all my bits and pieces in one place

Just trying to put it all together and have ideas but it is slow. I will keep on working at it. I am a bit old but am enjoying it and am not really a geek. I am using Synthasite which seems easy enough to follow and am still building.

Have a look if you like and even suggest an improvement - click here

Lovely and sunny

The children this morning were so happy to see me, they just love me
to bits. They arrive at school in the morning all wrapped up but I can
see their smile and it makes me feel very warm too.
